Twistercup II

The small Towing Tank of the Hamburg Ship Model Basin (HSVA) was a spectacular environment for the second Twistercup. The first indoor race was very well attended. 17 Ruddertwister boats fought for the cup and had to compete in four qualification races to advance into the final round of the best 10 boats.

Four wind machines were installed in one corner of HSVA's Towing Tank and demanded skilled piloting to beat the boats towards the first yellow buoy. Once the first buoy was passed on the port side, the boats turned around and had a nice and steady downwind towards the second buoy. After rounding that marker, the boats had another short distance to beat until crossing the start/finish line (marked by the blue buoys).

Mr. Michael Wächter of SDC (Ship Design & Consult GmbH) with his white "SDC" was a well-deserved winner of both his group races and the final match. Becker's "Twister Defender" with Mr. Henning Kuhlmann piloting had to give up the titel of Twistercup Champion for this time, despite finishing second.

The "SDC" will see tough competition on April 25th, 2009, when the third Twistercup will take place at the Scharmbeck village pond – the charming location of the very first Twistercup.
